The Importance of Being Mindful

With our increasingly busy lifestyles and struggle to maintain that all-important ‘work-life’ balance, we sometimes are guilty of rushing through the week without really stopping to notice much at all! Take the bus or train. How many of us keep our head down, avoiding eye contact or conversation with people sitting right next to us. This is where Mindfulness comes in. It might sound like the latest must-do celebrity trend, but the technique has been around for donkeys’ years and in a nutshell, is used to reduce everyday stress and help us to cope with hard times in a far more positive way. People all over the world find that mindfulness helps them uncover the enjoyment in their lives and makes them more focused and aware of their actions and thoughts.

The lowdown

According to research conducted by the University of California, Los Angeles, health benefits of mindfulness include:

  • A stronger immune system
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Increased attention and focus
  • Helps with anxiety and depression

Take Bei Capelli, a hair salon can sometimes be a chaotic place (particularly on a busy day!) with clients chatting, phones ringing, hairdryers blowing, so enabling a little bit of escapism with our signature head massage for a few minutes or even recommending to a client that they take a short meditation by shutting their eyes while lying back for a pampering hair wash can really work wonders for our mental health and wellbeing.

According to Psychology Today, the ‘M’ word has become a firm favourite with, well, everyone and is possibly the most significant development in mental health practice since the turn of the millennium. Mindfulness apps and practices are popping up all over the place. Try typing “mindfulness” into Google and see what you get!

Mindfulness for clients and staff

At Bei Capelli, we want both our clients and staff to benefit from mindfulness techniques. So, if we take for example, washing a customer’s hair, rather than just doing it like a robot, we find it’s better to really think about what we’re doing and focus on our hand movements, and make the motion a little more precise and attentive. The client not only enjoys it, but our employees do too.

So, if you fancy some ME-TIME away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke (or wherever you may be!), book an appointment today! How does a cut and finish with a little sprinkling of mindfulness thrown in for good measure sound?!
